Interpreting

In contrast to a translator, the interpreter translates orally from one language to another, or to/from a sign language.

Conference interpreting is a term which covers various forms of interpreting at international conferences and professional seminars.

Consecutive interpreting is the oldest form of interpreting. The interpreter may take notes while the speaker is talking and then speaks in the target language, rendering the meaning of what was said.

Simultaneous interpreting is a more recent technique which requires a certain amount of special equipment. The interpreter sits in a sound-proof booth and listens to the speaker on earphones. The interpreter then speaks into a microphone and in turn can be heard by those conference participants who put on their earphones.

Whispered interpreting is a form of simultaneous interpreting. Interpreting is done for a maximum of two people. The interpreter sits beside or behind the listener, and whispers a simultaneous translation of what the speaker says.

If you require an interpreter, we will be happy to arrange contact with one.
